Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
The short version
KnotQ is a local-first application. You are responsible for the data you create in the app, and that data stays on your device unless you choose to back it up, move it, enable optional sync, or connect an optional third-party integration.
Using KnotQ
You may use KnotQ to create, organize, and schedule your own notes, tasks, calendar items, and related local workspace data. You are responsible for using the app lawfully and for keeping your own backups of important data.
Accounts and sync
KnotQ may provide an optional hosted account and sync service. If you use sync, you are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for the content you synchronize through the service.
What KnotQ Sync includes
KnotQ works fully on your device without an account, and a subscription is never required to use the app. KnotQ Sync is an optional, auto-renewing paid subscription that adds hosted synchronization. While it is active, the records that make up your workspace — your schemes, folders, tasks, calendar items, embedded media such as images, settings, and any Google Calendar entries you have imported — are stored on KnotQ's backend and kept in sync across the devices where you sign in to the same KnotQ account. The subscription renews automatically each period until you cancel. If it is not active, the app keeps working with the workspace stored locally on each device; KnotQ Sync keeps one workspace consistent across your devices rather than unlocking separate local features.
You can cancel KnotQ Sync at any time, and cancelling is the way you opt out. Store-managed subscriptions can only be cancelled where they were purchased: cancel an iOS subscription in your Apple Account subscription settings, cancel an Android subscription in your Google Play subscriptions, and cancel a web or desktop subscription from your KnotQ account. The app also offers an in-app “Cancel subscription” control that opens the right place for your subscription. After you cancel, hosted sync stays active until the end of the current paid period and then turns off, and your local workspace stays on each device. You can stop using KnotQ Sync entirely by deleting your KnotQ account; see our Privacy Policy for how account deletion and data removal work.
Payments and subscriptions
Optional paid sync subscriptions are sold through different providers depending on the platform. In the iOS app, subscriptions are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase and managed in your Apple Account. In the Android app, subscriptions are sold through Google Play Billing and managed in your Google Play account. On web and desktop, subscriptions are processed by Lemon Squeezy. Payment methods, taxes, invoices, refunds, cancellations, and subscription management may be subject to the applicable provider's terms and policies in addition to these terms.
Paid sync access is granted after KnotQ receives and verifies the corresponding store purchase or billing event. If a payment fails, a subscription expires, or a subscription is cancelled at the end of its paid period, KnotQ may disable hosted sync access while keeping local workspace data on your device.
Your data
You own the content you create in KnotQ. KnotQ does not claim ownership of your schemes, tasks, notes, calendar entries, or settings. You are responsible for protecting, exporting, deleting, and backing up that data.
Google Calendar integration
KnotQ may offer an optional Google Calendar integration. This integration is read-only: it lets KnotQ display Google Calendar events inside your local workspace, but KnotQ does not create, edit, or delete events in your Google account.
Your use of Google Calendar remains subject to Google's own terms and policies.
Downloads and updates
KnotQ may be distributed through GitHub releases, app stores, or other direct download channels. When you download KnotQ from a third-party platform, that platform's terms may also apply to the download, payment, update, or refund process.
No warranty
KnotQ is provided as-is. We try to make it reliable, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every workflow. You should keep backups of important work.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, KnotQ and its maintainers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or business interruption arising from your use of the app.
Changes to these terms
If we make changes to these terms, we will update this page and note the date of the last revision above.
